Building a Library in Guyana
In conjunction with Dr. Hollina Alfred, a certified Guyanese Family Physician and former student at St. Stephen’s Primary School, the Guyanese Diaspora Charity (GDC) and Hollicare Medical Charity, along with Shiva Rahman, the GDC’s Project Director, have been helping St. Stephen’s to achieve its mission for the past two years. Our most significant contribution to date has been the renovation of an old room at the school, into a beautiful, air-conditioned library.
The “Bibi Shareefa & Jaleile Lul Rahman Library” was created to serve the students at the school for a long time, as they seek to learn, grow, and soar into fulfilling lives. We have also contributed to the welfare of the students in terms of financial support to purchase sports uniforms, providing food and drink at sporting events and around Mashramani celebrations, and we have provided technology (computer, projector, etc.) to assist the faculty with teaching the students there.
Dr. Mirza I. Rahman, M.D., M.P.H., the GDC’s President said that, “We are happy to partner with St. Stephen’s and plan to continue our support of the school. We will focus our efforts in the coming years on enhancing this library, created to honor my parents, given that my father was a Primary School Head Master in Guyana, many years ago!”
